Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic will undergo surgery on his injured knee in the coming days, his agent said on Tuesday.
The defender ruptured his cruciate ligament in a challenge during United’s 2-1 loss to Basel in the Champions League on December 7.
Vidic, 30, will miss the remainder of his side’s English Premier League title defence because of the injury, with agent Silvano Martina revealing the centre-back would go in for surgery this week.
“Vidic will be operated upon in the upcoming days. Obviously, rupturing your cruciate ligament is not a small injury, but thanks to the medical progress in recent years it’s similar to a meniscus problem some 20 years ago,” Martina told Goal.com.
“Of course, it will take some time before he returns to the pitch. However, I have no doubts whatsoever that he will recover 100 percent.”
The Serbia international has made close to 250 appearances for United since joining the champions in January 2006.
