Villarreal and Liverpool meet at the Estadio El Madrigal for the first leg of their Europa League semi-final clash tonight. Villarreal will look to take advantage at home, but Liverpool have been outstanding in Europe this season which could make for a close affair.

Villarreal haven’t lost in the Europa League this season since their opening group game, and have beaten Napoli, Bayern Leverkusen and Sparta Prague to make it this far. They’re difficult to beat on home soil too, having remain unbeaten at the Estadio El Madrigal in the Europa League, while avoiding defeat against Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid in La Liga.

Despite this, opponents Liverpool are still favourites to progress over two legs. They’re coming off the back of a fantastic win over Borussia Dortmund, but the away leg will be the hardest for them. Liverpool have been second-best as the travelling side, winning just once from their six away games in the competition this season, but they are more likely to draw then lose so tonight’s meeting could be a stalemate.
