Vlaar preaches Weimann importance

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar said it is important the club holds on to Andreas Weimann after the attacker’s valuable goal against QPR.

Weimann found the net to put the Villans 2-1 up in the second half at Villa Park, as the hosts went on to record an important 3-2 victory over their fellow relegation rivals.

And Vlaar, who played the full 90 minutes to help Villa to three important points, wants to see his hard-working team-mate Weimann at the club in the future.

“He keeps on going, it’s unbelievable. If you see his workrate it’s crazy and he’s doing it every game,” he told reporters.

“He scores a lot of goals and he’s always in the right spot at the right time. I heard (he and the club) are talking to each other, but of course it’s very important that he stays playing for Aston Villa.

“I know (players in the youth team) from Holland. They played Austria and there was only one name they took and that was Andy Weimann.”

The win for Villa follows their crucial 2-1 victory away to Reading on March 9, which helped keep the Royals below them in the table.

Vlaar admitted taking maximum points from their two most recent fixtures was the only target for Villa.

“We got six points out of two games and everybody is very happy,” he added.
