Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller believes his team can still catch Bayern Munich following a 1-1 draw with Stuttgart on Saturday.

The German champions required a second-half equaliser from Lukasz Piszczek to cancel out Serdar Tasci’s early strike, but they have now fallen five points behind Jupp Heynckes’ men, who strolled to a 4-0 victory over Nurnberg.

However, the 31-year-old is unconcerned by the result, claiming that they will press on with their campaign regardless of the perilous form shown by their league rivals.

“Sure, Bayern are an exceptional team with strong individuals but the league title has not been presented to them just yet,” Weidenfeller told Bild.

“The season is still long, and lot can happen [in that time]. We are in a similar position to last season.”

Dortmund have dropped to third in the Bundesliga standings following Schalke’s 3-1 win over Hoffenheim.
