Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has told Arsenal TV that he hopes centre-back William Gallas will stay for at least another season, despite being stripped of his captaincy last year.
The centre-back has suffered a torrid season so far with a loss of form on the pitch as well as trouble off the pitch. The Frenchman slated his Arsenal team-mates in an interview with the press, blaming their lack of courage and desire for the lack of trophies at the Emirates Stadium.
However, since then Gallas has let his football do the talking and has formed a solid partnership with Kolo Toure after Wenger placed his faith in the pair again in January. Arsenal have now gone six games without conceding a goal although the Arsenal faithful are becoming increasingly agitated with four straight Premiership 0-0 draws.ÂÂ
“His future is here and it is bright,” said Wenger. “I believe he has shown that the only answer in football is quality performances.”
Gallas is set to miss the Gunners upcoming tie at West Brom, although the defender may return for Arsenal’s F.A Cup clash against Burnley on the weekend.
Wenger added: “William has had a little ankle problem for a while and we want to cure it. He will be back for Sunday (against Burnley) probably.”
