Harry Kane scored the 500th goal of his professional career as Bayern Munich beat Werden Bremen 3-0 at Weserstadion.

The England captain helped himself to a brace while Leon Goretzka was also on target, as Vincent Kompany’s side restored their six-point cushion at the Bundesliga summit.

Kane broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when he fired home from the penalty spot, after Niklas Stark felled Lennart Karl in the box.

The striker doubled his tally just three minutes later, whipping the ball past Mio Backhaus from the edge of the box to reach the 500 mark for club and country.

Felix Agu was narrowly off target and Marco Grull headed against the post, as the hosts looked to find a way back into the contest.

But after Backhaus denied Serge Gnabry, Bayern put the contest to bed 20 minutes from time, with Goretzka neatly slotting home from Alphonso Davies’ cutback.

Data Debrief: 500, 300 and 100 all rolled into one for Kane

With his brace, Kane has now scored 500 senior career goals for club and country, with 100 of those coming from the penalty spot.

The England captain’s penalty also represented his 300th goal in the big five European leagues.

Meanwhile, Kane has now been directly involved in 11 goals against Werder in the Bundesliga (eight goals, three assists), his joint-highest tally against any opponent (also 11 versus Hoffenheim).

Second-placed Borussia Dortmund had closed the gap to Bayern to just three points, after their 4-0 rout of Mainz on Friday.

However, Bayern comfortably restored some breathing space after their 17th straight away league win against Werder.

As for Werder, they are now without a win in 12 Bundesliga matches, only going longer without victory during a single top-flight season in 2012-13 (13 games).
