West Ham 0-0 Bournemouth: Spoils shared as hosts miss chance to match Forest

West Ham missed the chance to move level on points with 17th-place Nottingham Forest after playing out a 0-0 draw with Bournemouth.

A win for Nuno Espirito Santo’s side would have provided a huge boost in their bid to retain their Premier League status, but they could not find a decisive goal despite a decent showing at London Stadium.

Axel Disasi saw a header brilliantly kept out by Djordje Petrovic just 44 seconds in, before his follow-up was deflected onto the roof of the net.

Crysencio Summerville and Valentin Castellanos also went close in a dominant first half, with Bournemouth showing little threat at the other end.

The Cherries created more in a much-improved second-half display, with Rayan embarking on a stunning solo run from deep inside his own half, only to clip the outside of the post with his bending shot.

Castellanos then sent an audacious overhead kick wide of the post before former Bournemouth man Callum Wilson forced a smart stop out of Petrovic shortly after coming on.

Jarrod Bowen looked set to clinch the win in the closing seconds after being threaded through by Summerville, but under pressure, he blazed over the bar, leaving West Ham two points behind Forest, who face Liverpool on Sunday.

Data Debrief: A chance missed for West Ham

West Ham had 20 shots, their most in a Premier League match this season, while it is their most in a home league game without scoring since December 2022 (22 v Brentford).

Their 2.82 expected goals (xG) is also the most of any side that failed to score in a single Premier League match this season, a frustrating statistic for them as Bournemouth created just 0.65 at the other end.

Nuno’s side had the best opening, and he threw on Wilson late on to try and snatch the win. Despite only coming on in the 72nd minute, the striker had more touches in the opposition box than any other player in the match (seven).

But a stalemate should have been expected; this fixture is just the fourth to finish as a draw at least six times in a row.
