Wigan Athletic 4/5 to beat fellow promotion contenders Reading

Wigan fell short in the playoffs last season, but under manager Uwe Rosler they believe they can earn promotion this time around. However, this afternoon they are coming up against a Reading side who are also looking to get back into the Premier League.

It will be a difficult affair for both teams this afternoon, but Wigan having home advantage could well see them scrap through in their first league game of the new campaign.

The Latics have a strong squad too, with Emmerson Boyce, James McArthur, Callum McManaman and Martyn Waghorn all likely to start.

For Reading, manager Nigel Adkins is coming off the back of missing out on last season’s playoffs by a single point. He does have key players who can better their fortunes, however. Alex McCarthy and centre-back Sean Morrison will make it as difficult as possible for Wigan to score, but in attack they are likely to have Nick Blackman to provide the goals.

Ladbrokes, however, are backing Wigan with odds of 4/5 to get the win this afternoon.
