Wigan sign Miyaichi on loan

Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyaichi has completed a season-long loan move to Wigan Athletic.

The midfielder, who joined Arsenal in January 2011, spent the end of last season with Bolton, where he played eight matches in the English Premier League and four in the FA Cup, scoring against Millwall in his second game.

The 19-year-old had been limited to the Arsenal reserve team, with occasional League Cup action, before he made the four-month loan last term.

Arsene Wenger has decided a first-team berth will be hard to come by once more, opting to give the player a chance to make an impact at the DW Stadium.

A statement on Arsenal’s official website said: “Ryo heads to the DW Stadium to gain further first-team experience under Roberto Martinez.

“Everyone at Arsenal Football Club wishes Ryo the best of luck during his time with Wigan.”

The Japanese forward, who made his full international debut against Azerbaijan in May, will help to bolster Martinez’s front-line after the Spaniard allowed Hugo Rodallega to move to Fulham.

Reports have suggested the deal for Miyaichi could signal the departure of Victor Moses to Chelsea.

Miyaichi joins striker Mauro Boselli, recalled from Estudiantes, and former Mallorca defender Ivan Ramis as Wigan’s close-season reinforcements.

Martinez’s team kick-off the new Premier League season with a daunting fixture at home to Chelsea.
