Will West Ham aid their promotion push with new signings?

I really like West Ham as a football club and I was really saddened to see them exit the Premier League last season.

However the Irons currently sit second in the Championship table, only behind league leaders Southampton on goal difference.

Wheeler-dealer

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is famous for being a bit of a wheeler-dealer and he is expected to do more business in the transfer window.

The former-Bolton boss has a strong squad but he is looking to make sure he has enough quality to make sure the club end up back in the Premier League come the end of the season.

The West Ham boss told Sky Sports: “ In an ideal world, I will bring in two new players this month – a forward and a defender – because we only have five subs and we have to rotate the squad,”

“We have already started the process of bidding but without any success at the moment, either permanent or loan deals. The co-owners Mr Sullivan and Mr Gold have pressed the button on a lot of potential deals already.

“I can’t be more pleased with the way they have supported me. More goals is what we are after but we haven’t managed to clinch one yet”

Striker

West Ham are being heavily linked with Huddersfield striker Jordan Rhodes. The striker has scored 22 goals in 23 appearances in League One this season. The Championship side apparently face competition for the striker from SPL giants Celtic and Premier League Everton.

Huddersfield don’t want to sell Rhodes but a fee in the region of £4 million is believed to be acceptable to the Yorkshire club. It remains to be seen if the Hammers have that much to spend in the transfer window.

What is sure is that Allardyce obviously wants to sign a prolific striker and Rhodes fit’s the bill. The 21 year-old has so much potential to become a top striker. However he would need to prove himself at a higher level if he moved to West Ham.

Rumours

Allardyce’s club has also been linked with Cardiff City midfielder Peter Whittingham and Reading winger Jimmy Kebe. It seems that the east end club have already had bids rejected for the pair but they could return with bigger offers before the window shuts.

West Ham are a big fish in a small pond when it comes to the Championship. They would be able to attract a decent calibre of player to the club. I’m sure the likes of Rhodes, Whittingham and Kebe would be attracted to signing for a relatively big club like West Ham.

Exit

West Ham defender James Tomkins has also been linked with a £4million move to Premier League Newcastle. However West Ham co-owner David Gold has stated that the talented youngster is not for sale and be leaving the club.

Strong

West Ham have a reasonably strong squad for the second tier and should be able to maintain their push for promotion. However any new signings could just give them that extra quality they need to get over the finish line.

West Ham was one of my favourites to gain promotion at the start of the season, mainly because of the presence of Sam Allardyce at the club. So far I haven’t seen anything that tells me anything different. I believe the Hammers fans with be celebrating in May whether they make signings in the transfer window or not.

Will West Ham sign anybody in the transfer window?
