Desperately looking to book a return to European football this season, Wolfsburg will travel to the Max-Morlock-Stadion on Friday night.

Starting with Michael Köllner’ side, after being promoted from Bundesliga 2 last season few expected Nurnberg to make much of an impact in Germany’s top-tier. With just their goal difference keeping them out of the bottom three, Der Club’s confidence will not be boosted by a 3-0 hammering away at Bayern Munich last weekend. Failing to win any of their last eight Bundesliga appearances, it will be their defensive issues giving Köllner the biggest headache. Already shipping 33 goals in their 14 matches, no side in the league hold a worse defensive record and they’re yet to record a clean sheet since the 22nd of September.

As for the visitors, while many were concerned about Wolfsburg’s Bundesliga status last season, Bruno Labbadia’s side will have their sights firmly set on securing a return to European football. Picking up a point in last weekend’s 2-2 draw with fellow top-six contenders Hoffenheim, the Greens are now unbeaten in their last three league outings and their form away from the Volkswagen Arena has continued to impress. Labbadia’s outfit have won their three of their four matches on the road and they will be looking for forward Daniel Ginczek to carry on his recent tally. The 27-year-old now has two in his last two Bundesliga appearances.
