Wrong mindset sees Modric ruled out

Harry Redknapp is not satisfied with Luka Modric’s mindset and has ruled him out of Tottenham’s Premier League clash with Manchester United.

The Croatia midfielder has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea and has publicly criticised Tottenham’s chairman, Daniel Levy, for breaking a verbal agreement that was in place to allow him to move from White Hart Lane should a bigger club seek his signature.

Redknapp believes Chelsea’s imminent signing of Valencia midfielder Juan Mata is likely to put an end to their interest in Modric, but despite this, the Spurs boss insists that the 25-year-old will not feature at Old Trafford on Monday.

“He’s (Modric) got a little bit of an injury. There’s a possibility he could have played through it. But at the moment his head’s not in the right place,” Redknapp told Talksport.

“I want to keep him. All I said the other day was that if he really doesn’t want to be here that much, maybe in the end you might have to sell him. If people don’t want to play for you, you’ll just have to sell him and get three or four players in, who knows, you may improve your team all round.”

After a quiet close-season in the transfer market, Redknapp confirmed his side are set to bring in two players before the close of the window, with Real Madrid midfielder Lassana Diarra and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor expected to join the north London outfit.

“We’ll get one or two players in before the window closes. The chairman is very close to doing a couple of deals. If we can, it will improve us again.”

“You have to keep improving because all the other teams have. Liverpool have done it. Arsenal spent 25 million pounds on a couple of players, Gervinho and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.”

“We haven’t really bought anybody. The goalkeeper, Brad Friedel, came on a free transfer. If we get one or two in, we’ll be bang there again for sure.”
