Inter Milan veteran Javier Zanetti believes Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi is well aware of the importance the club hold in world football.

A number of Inter figures have publicly declared Lavezzi is a transfer target for the club as the Argentine remains persistently linked with football away from the San Paolo.

“Honestly, I have not spoken with Lavezzi,” Zanetti told Sky Sport Italia.

“I think he knows what Inter are all about, the importance that this club have in Italy and world football because we have played against him so many times.

“He is the one to decide his future, it is a personal decision. If he arrived at Inter, it would be very good because he is a great player.”

Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with an interest in Lavezzi, but sporting director Leonardo has insisted that the French club have not lodged any bid for the striker.

Zanetti, 38, also gave his approval to the club’s reported interest in Genoa-owned striker Mattia Destro, who has been linked with a return to San Siro after coming through the Inter youth ranks.

“He has made the most of the chances he has had at Siena, so he deserves a chance like Inter,” Zanetti said.
