Allegri: Juve have to score in Dortmund

Massimiliano Allegri feels an away goal is imperative for Juventus when they face Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

The Serie A leaders take a 2-1 lead to Signal Iduna Park in their last-16 tie, meaning a draw in Germany would be enough to see them advance to the quarter-finals.

However, Allegri expects Dortmund to pose more of a threat in front of goal at home, so Juve must not rest on their lead if they are to progress.

“We have a 2-1 advantage from the first leg and are aware of the difficulties posed by the game, as are Borussia,” the Juve coach said.

“It will be a great game and I honestly can’t see it ending 0-0, even though that would be great for us.

“I think we’ll need to score at least once to go through, two goals would be great for us. In the first leg we didn’t allow them a shot on goal, Dortmund only scored from our mistake.

“But they have plenty of pace in their ranks. We must put in a good technical performance and strike their weak areas.”

Worryingly for Juventus, Dortmund have only failed to score once in the Champions League this season, but Allegri is confident the desire to secure a treble this season will push his players on.

He added: “We’re now at the final straight. We want to get through to the next round and we have the league to wrap up.

“There’s also the Coppa Italia, where we’ll be aiming to overturn the first leg outcome when we travel to Florence.”
