LA Galaxy midfielder David Beckham is wary of the San Jose Earthquakes ahead of the first leg of the sides’ MLS semi-final on Sunday.
The Galaxy, who came from behind in their 2-1 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday to reach the semi-final, let leads against the Earthquakes slip three times this season, losing two games and drawing one.
Beckham stressed his side must focus on their own strengths to overcome their west conference rivals at the Home Depot Center.
“They are a very dangerous team, they’ve been very physical over the games that we’ve played and also throughout their season,” Beckham said.
“We’re concentrating on our own game, we know what they can do and what their dangerous players can do, it’s going to be a tough game, but we’re used to those.
“You know they’re not going to be worried about playing in our stadium, they’ll probably be looking forward to it, so we have to be ready.”
Galaxy teammate Robbie Keane said his side cannot repeat past mistakes against the Earthquakes if they want to take advantage of their home leg.
“We’ve scored a lot of goals against them so they’ve been good games to watch I’m sure, but hopefully tomorrow we can (not) replicate the mistakes that we’ve been making against them,” Keane said.
“They’re very dangerous on set pieces but we obviously have to be wary of that but we know that with the players we have that we can also score goals.
“It was obviously different from what we had the other day it was a one-off game that we had to win but today is now two legs so it’s important we try and get a couple of goals to bring to their stadium.”
Beckham’s contract at Galaxy expires in December and the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star said a decision regarding his future will made at season’s end.
“I said I was going to enjoy being part of this team throughout these playoffs and then make a decision again at the end of the season, see how I feel and see where my body and mind is at,” he said.
“But, I feel pretty good.”
