Norwich City’s Ryan Bennett has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following remarks made on his Twitter account.

The Carrow Road outfit had confirmed that the defender was the subject of an internal investigation following angry exchanges with fans who sent abusive messages to the 23-year-old, who now faces disciplinary action after the FA ruled he was in breach of their regulations.

An FA statement read: “Ryan Bennett has breached FA Rule E3 – use of abusive and/or insulting and/or threatening words in comments posted on a Twitter account.

“He has until 4pm on Friday 26 April to respond to the charge.”

Bennett, who joined from Peterborough in January 2012, deleted his Twitter account after being reported to the FA.

“Officially going to delete Twitter! Seems you can’t say what you want on here,” he posted on Tuesday.

Former England U-21 international Bennett has made 24 appearances in his time at Norwich, and netted his first goal for the club in their 2-1 win over Reading last Saturday.
