(GSM) – Internazionale midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has denied accusations that the club is playing a boring brand of football.
While accepting that Spain and Barcelona play the best football in the world, Cambiasso believes the reigning European champions have proved they play quality football by winning the treble last season.
“Everyone who plays football would like to play like Barcelona or Spain, who focus on possession and spectacle,” he told the Gazzetta dello Sport.
“But it’s not true than in Italy, and specifically Inter, we defend and do nothing else.
“You cannot win every trophy available by just sitting there waiting for your opponents. We know when it’s the right moment to attack and the moment to defend.”
Cambiasso and teammate Javier Zanetti returned to the international scene after Diego Armando Maradona left them out of the World Cup summer.
“It was very disappointing not to take part in the World Cup, but you will never hear me criticise Maradona,” assured Cambiasso.
“It was his choice, just as I am happy for the new manager’s decision to call me back in.”
