Chilean starlet confirms Chelsea move

Chilean midfielder Cristian Cuevas has confirmed reports that he has agreed a summer switch to Chelsea.

The Blues had been following the talented footballer for quite a while and they decided to make their move after he impressed at the Under-20 South American Championship.

Cuevas, 17, also had a successful trial at Stamford Bridge in November and he now reveals the summer move to Chelsea has been agreed.

“Everything went very quickly and was sorted out this week,” the youngster told Radio Cooperativa. “It will be a big change. But, I am calm and very happy.”

L’Equipe understands Chelsea have agreed to pay €1.9 million for Cuevas, but the date of the transfer has yet to be determined.

The midfielder is set to take part in the Under-17 World Cup in the summer and is likely to join the Blues after the tournament.

Despite his fragile age, Cuevas had an important role to play for Chile at the Under-20 South American Championship, starting 8 games and scoring 2 goals in the process.
