PSV have confirmed that Phillip Cocu has signed a four-year deal to succeed Dick Advocaat as the club’s head coach.
The former Netherlands international last took charge at the Philips Stadion in March 2012 upon the dismissal of Fred Rutten, but stepped down at the end of that season having overseen a run of seven wins in nine fixtures.
However, having served further time coaching at the club’s youth academy, the 42-year-old has stepped up following the announcement of Advocaat’s retirement.
Ernest Faber and Chris van der Weerden, both of whom served with distinction as players at PSV, will become Cocu’s assistants.
Cocu’s other previous coaching experience came with the Netherlands national team, where he served as Bert van Marwijk’s number two.
PSV finished second to Ajax in the Dutch standings last season and have not won the title since the 2007-08 campaign.
