Millonarios advanced to the semi-finals of the Copa Sudamericana thanks to a last-gasp penalty against Gremio on Thursday.
The Colombian outfit were facing elimination on the away goals rule with seconds remaining but Wason Renteria’s dramatic spot-kick handed Millonarios a 3-1 victory on the night and a 3-2 triumph on aggregate.
Gremio went into Thursday’s match with a one-goal advantage courtesy of their 1-0 home win over a fortnight ago and they netted a crucial away goal just 13 minutes into the game.
Defender Werley hit the back of the net to hand the Brazilian’s a 2-0 aggregate lead.
The scores would remain unchanged up until the hour-mark when Wilberto Cosme scored.
Cosme’s goal levelled proceedings on the night but Millonarios still trailed 2-1 on aggregate.
Renteria then put the hosts ahead with less than nine minutes remaining – his third goal in three outings.
Gremio were still ahead on away goals but the former Sporting Braga man sent the home fans into raptures after bagging his second goal – a decisive 94th-minute penalty.
Millonarios will face Tigre for a place in final against either Sao Paulo or Universidad Catolica.
