Volker Finke has been appointed as the manager of the Cameroon national side.

The 65-year-old German will replace Jean-Paul Akono after the World Cup qualifiers against Togo and Democratic Republic of Congo, and the friendly versus Ukraine.

Akono was brought in to replace Denis Lavagne when the Frenchman failed to take Cameroon to the African Cup of Nations finals in both 2012 and 2013, with Finke now set to manage his first international side.

Finke has plenty of club experience with the likes of Freiburg and Urawa Red Diamonds, while his last position was as interim coach of Koln.

He takes charge of Cameroon as they sit top of Group I in the World Cup qualifiers, a point clear of second-place Libya.
