Marko Marin, Oliver Neuville and Patrick Helmes have been named in Germany's provisional EURO 2008 squad despite playing second division football in 2007/08.
Marin and Neuville represented VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach in the 2. Bundesliga this season, while Helmes played for 1. FC Köln, but all three did enough to earn a place in Joachim Löw's draft party. However, there is no place for Valencia CF goalkeeper Timo Hildebrand, who has been usurped by Bayer 04 Leverkusen's René Adler, while Manuel Friedrich also misses out with Jermaine Jones, Piotr Trochowski and Tim Borowski battling to fill his boots in midfield.
