Italy’s top league returns this weekend after an international break that ultimately saw their World Cup dream end and Gianluigi Buffon signed off his international career with a defeat over two legs against Sweden. The country, on the whole, is still in massive shock, and perhaps a return to club football will allow for a distraction. With this in mind, Inter Milan host Atalanta.

It has been a very good season for Inter Milan so far, and they look like an outside bet to claim the title. 30 points from their 12 games is a superb return, while they have taken 11 points from their last five games. Inter are as yet unbeaten in the league having won nine games and drawn three times, scoring 23 goals and conceding just nine times, which is where their strength really lies. A win over Atalanta would allow them to maintain the pressure on top side Napoli, while with each win, their belief in themselves will be growing.

For Atalanta, it has been an inconsistent season so far. Four wins, four draws and four defeats means that they have taken 16 points from their 12 games which is a decent total, but they will be regretting their inability to turn their draws into wins, as they would find themselves in a far better situation right now. Importantly, they are 10 points clear of Genoa in 18th, with survival their first target. A win over Inter would give them huge confidence, but we are backing the home side with odds of 7/10 from Bet365.
