Juventus still angry over Genoa draw

Juventus coach Ciro Ferrara said on Saturday his players are still angry about dropping points in Thursday’s 2-2 draw at Genoa.

That result ended Juve’s 100 percent start to the season and allowed champions Inter Milan to leapfrog them at the top of the table.

But with the visit of lowly Bologna on Sunday, Juve have an excellent opportunity to get back to winning ways and erase the painful memories of their last match.

“We’re angry and that’s a good sign. We want to put that evening and it’s episodes behind us,” he said, referring to two disallowed goals for marginal offside decisions.

“We were really disappointed about the result but all that must be transferred into positive energy tomorrow night.

“Those episodes were very difficult to judge but now we must think about Bologna.

“We need to have the same intensity we showed in Genoa. There are no easy matches and hence this game against Bologna is very important.”

Juventus travel to Germany in midweek to tackle Bayern Munich in the Champions League and Ferrara is adamant that his players focus on their domestic commitments rather than looking ahead to bigger and more glamorous encounters.

“The best way to prepare for the match against Bayern will be to beat the Emilianese (Bologna) and show the desire to achieve a positive result.”

Ferrara could be boosted by the return of both Brazilian playmaker Diego and club captain Alessandro Del Piero, although he has yet to make a decision on what role each will play on Sunday.

“Diego has recovered but we’ll assess him tomorrow. Tomorrow we’ll make some changes but I have to try to rest certain players while giving others a chance to get back their confidence on the pitch.

“(Fabio) Cannavaro will rest because since he’s been here he’s played everything. As for Del Piero I have to assess the advantages and disadvantages (of bringing him on) during the game and I need to talk with both him and Diego to understand how best to use them.”
