Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos has undergone surgery to remove a piece of cartilage in his knee, the club have confirmed.

Kroos was expected to be out for a further three weeks having been sidelined by an adductor muscle injury sustained during the Champions League victory over Juventus earlier this month.

But the player has elected to push ahead with the procedure on his knee in order to improve his chances of reaching full fitness before the end of the season.

The German champions have since revealed that Kroos has suffered no ill-effects from the operation, and the 23-year-old is now targeting a return in the DFB Pokal final clash with Stuttgart on June 1.

Kroos has made 36 appearances for Bayern Munich so far this season, scoring 11 goals.
