Leverkusen keen on Barca’s Montoya

Spanish daily Marca is reporting that Bayer Leverkusen are showing interest in Barcelona defender Martin Montoya.

The Bundesliga side stayed without starting defender Daniel Carvajal as Real Madrid exercised the buy-back clause in the player’s contract.

They are, therefore, looking for a new right-back and have in turn made Martin Montoya their number one target.

However, Barcelona officials are not too keen on selling the 22-year-old as they believe he would be a good long-term replacement for Daniel Alves.

The Catalans are even prepared to offer Montoya new and improved contract, which means Bayer Leverkusen might have to turn their attention elsewhere.

Montoya has been showing a lot of potential over the last couple of years and he started no less than 11 La Liga fixtures last term, scoring one goal.

The right-sided defender also made 3 Champions League appearances and featured in 5 Copa del Rey matches this season.
