Ligue 1 Review: Lyon stumble against Bastia

Lyon lost ground at the top of Ligue 1 after failing to break down a stubborn Bastia side to draw 0-0 in Corsica.

Hubert Fournier’s side came into the weekend on a fine run of form after five consecutive wins.

But they could not overcome a Bastia side, who remain undefeated since sacking Claude Makelele as coach earlier this month.

Alexandre Lacazette spurned a gilt-edged one-on-one chance after Floyd Ayite and Yannick Cahuzac had gone close to snatching a win for the hosts.

The result means Lyon are now three points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain, while second-placed Marseille could go top on Sunday if they defeat Bordeaux at home.

Elsewhere, Monaco’s frustrating run goes on after they were held to a 2-2 draw at home to Caen.

Emmanuel Imorou’s own goal put the principality club ahead five minutes into the game, but Geoffrey Kondogbia put through his own net after Bengali-Fode Koita had equalised to put a shock on the cards.

Joao Moutinho scored for Monaco with 15 minutes remaining, but they could not force a winner and have now drawn six of their last nine games in all competitions.

Lorient climbed off the foot of the table with a 1-0 win over Lens – Portugal left-back Raphael Guerreiro following up scoring his first international goal in midweek with another strike to help Lorient move up and leave their opponents bottom.

Guingamp remain just a point better off than Lens after going down 1-0 to Breton rivals Rennes, while Nice and Reims played out a goalless draw at Allianz Riviera.
