According to the Telegraph, Pep Guardiola is looking to sign a wide attacker after Manchester City failed to recruit Alexis Sanchez and Riyad Mahrez in January, and their next target is Monaco’s Thomas Lemar.
At the age of 22, Lemar is quite capable of fulfilling the desired role, while also able to perform in midfield. Pacey, direct, creative and with good technical skills, he seems just the type of material Guardiola has been known to develop into a top-level player.
The move would certainly present a blow to the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool, who, along with Chelsea, have been reported to be monitoring the France international’s situation. It was reported last summer by a number of outlets that Arsenal had put in a failed bid of £90 million, and that Liverpool also had at least one bid rejected by Monaco.
The Merseysiders were also heavily linked with him during January as it was believed Lemar would be a very good replacement for Philippe Coutinho.
