PAOK 29/10 to beat Basel in Wednesdays Champions League qualifier

Competition: Champions League qualifier

Market: PAOK win

Odds: 29/10 @ Bet 365

With everything left to play for on Wednesday night, a Basel side who have been drastically short of form entering the new season will welcome a PAOK team to St. Jakob-Park who hold a 2-1 advantage following the first-leg.

Starting with the hosts on Wednesday night, although many expected Raphaël Wicky’s side to be one of the leading contenders in the Swiss Super League this time around, The Reds have been drastically short of form. Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Neuchâtel Xamax last time out, Basel have failed to win any of their opening two domestic matches and were also beaten 2-1 by PAOK in the first leg of their Champions League qualifier. Now on a six-match winless run, where they have lost five of those outings, we’re backing it to be another tough night for a Basel side with minimal confidence.

As for PAOK, Răzvan Lucescu’s side couldn’t be on a finer run of form in contrast to their hosts. Although they may have finished six points adrift of Athens at the top of the Greek table, the visitors did beat AEK in the Cup and they have only carried on their impressive form since. In fact, aside from a 2-1 loss to Nordsjælland in a friendly matchup at the start of July, PAOK have not lost any of their other 15 appearances. It will be their form in the final third that will be most impressive Lucescu, the visitors on Wednesday have now scored two or more goals in 13 of their last 15, a run stemming back to March.
