Brazilian Muricy Ramalho has been appointed coach of first division side Palmeiras in place of Wanderley Luxemburgo who was sacked at the end of June, local media reported.

Ramalho, 53, coached three time Brazilian champions Sao Paulo but was sacked last month after their elimination in the quarter-finals of the Libertadores Cup.

Palmeiras are currently second in the Brazilian championship equal on points with leaders Atletico Mineiro after 12 games.
