Young Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku is highly-rated, but his future at Stamford Bridge is in doubt

Chelsea and Belgium youngster Romelu Lukaku has again come out in the press talking about his future.

The 21-year-old is believed to be an intelligent young guy off the pitch, so why does he talk so much in the media?

Options

Lukaku talking about his future told Sky Sports: “I want to go on holiday first and rest with my parents and then we will see,”

“I want to be somewhere where I can play my best football and hopefully win titles. It’s up to me to work hard but there are choices to make.

“Things like that happen in football and I’m confident I will make the right choice. I’m looking at everything but first of all I want to go on holiday and relax a little bit.”

Potential

For all the talking he does in the media, Lukaku does have immense potential, as long as he gets his head right. Ever since he broke into the Anderlecht team at just 16, he has been talked about as a possible world-class striker and at 21-years-old he is starting to fulfil some of his potential.

However, he is not the finished article as a striker. His touch can be poor and he can often disappear from games. His work rate is often poor as well.

If he can polish some of the rough areas of his game then he has got the potential to go on and become a great striker.

He is big and strong and can outmuscle opponents. He has all the attributes to be a top Premier League striker, if he chooses to stay in England of course.

World Cup

Lukaku was disappointing for Belgium in the first two World Cup group games and was left out of the last group game and started the last 16 clash with USA on the bench. The striker came off the bench to score and provide an assist in extra-time to help defeat USA 2-1.

Goals

Romelu Lukaku has enjoyed a fruitful two seasons out on-loan in the Premier League with West Brom and Everton. The big striker netted 17 Premier League goals for the Baggies and last season found the net 15 times in the top-flight for the Toffees.

That goals return is decent for such a young player. Hopefully his consistency can only get better as he develops.

Doubts

There remain doubts over Lukaku’s future at Chelsea. Blues boss Jose Mourinho seems to have taken a dislike to the youngster. Many speculated over whether Chelsea would have achieved more if Lukaku had stayed last season.

However, it seems that Lukaku will not be a Chelsea player for much longer if reports are to be believed. A number of clubs have been linked with a move for the striker, including Spanish champions Atletico Madrid and former-club Everton.

The striker is reportedly rated at £20million, a fee that the Toffees should be able to stretch to. Atletico Madrid are likely to have £32million of Chelsea’s money burning a hole in their pocket, with Spanish Diego Costa set for a £32million move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Atletico Madrid are currently favourites to sign Lukaku this summer at odds of 5/4 and could prove an attractive destination for the Belgium, if he choose to leave Chelsea this summer.

Lukaku was happy at Everton and he has acknowledged that Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has helped him to become a better player. The downside to a move to Merseyside is the fact the Toffees cannot offer Champions League football next season.

Football

Romelu Lukaku is a real student of the game, as he spends a lot of his life watching the beautiful game when is not playing. He does want to become one of the best players in the world.

However, he needs to start to let his football do the talking, rather than opening his mouth at every opportunity to the press. If he can get his head right, then Romelu Lukaku could go on to become a truly great striker in the future.
