Rooney on his way to US to finalise DC United deal

Wayne Rooney has confirmed the reports linking him with a move to DC United, posting up an image of himself on a plane to the United States. The 32-year-old forward’s time in English football is almost at an end, at least for now, as he goes in search of a new challenge in Major League Soccer.

After thirteen years with Manchester United, Rooney moved back to hometown club Everton for a final spell with the team that initially put him on the map. While he didn’t exactly set the world on fire he certainly had a few headline-making moments during his second stint at Goodison Park, and when he looks back on his career, he’ll likely be very pleased with how things have gone for him.

Rooney is both Manchester United and England’s all-time record goalscorer, and as he moves into the final phase of his professional career, many are interested to see whether or not he can impress over in the States.
