Tottenham and West Ham battled for Sweeney

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United are locked in a battle to secure the services of AFC Wimbledon starlet Ryan Sweeney, according to the Mirror.

The defender has been with the Dons for ten years, finally breaking into their first team twelve months ago, making his league debut in a 4-0 defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge.

He has since made a further eleven senior club appearances, while he has also been recoginised internationally, winning three caps for Repulblic of Ireland’s U19s last November.

The teenager is also being sounded out by Championship duo Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town, with bids expected to be made at the end of the current campaign.

Tottenham and West Ham have both exceded expectations this season with both having a fighting chance of finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

Spurs currently sit in second place, eleven points clear of the Hammers who are in fifth, a point off the Champions League qualfication places.
