Tottenham need to sort out managerial situation

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is unsure of his future with the club

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has again commented about his future with the club

Ever since Tim Sherwood was given the Tottenham job there has been speculation about somebody coming in and taking his job.

One of the mains reasons for this speculation was Sherwood’s lack of experience as a boss.

Ambitious

It was a surprise that a club the size of Tottenham took a gamble on appointing such an inexperienced boss.

Spurs are a highly ambitious club, who now expect to be challenging for the top Champions League spots every season.

To appoint such an inexperienced boss suggested that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy knew that a suitable replacement for outgoing boss Andre Villas-Boas was not available. The appointment of Sherwood seemed like a short-term one, but nobody seems to have told Sherwood.

Sherwood has almost been treated like an interim boss from the second he got the job and Spurs always appeared like they were looking for a bigger and better boss.

Decent

In all honesty Tim Sherwood has not done a terrible job at Tottenham. Spurs could finish just three points off last season’s points total in the top-flight, which was their record ever Premier League points total of 72 points.

Vocal

However, Sherwood has made the mistake of being very vocal in the press. He has talked about near enough everything in the press and that may have raised concerns amongst the Tottenham hierarchy. Perhaps his managerial inexperienced has shown in the way he has conducted himself in the media.

The Tottenham boss has once again come out in the press to express concerns over his Tottenham future. Brazilian international midfielder Sandro last week claimed that Sherwood would be sacked this summer. Talking about the subject Sherwood told Sky Sports: “If I need any information I’m better off asking the players.

“Sandro wouldn’t be the first player to ask me, although he hasn’t. Someone has obviously asked him for his opinion and knowledge of what’s going on, but I’m not sure the chairman has spoken to Sandro.

“The players look at a lot of speculation and it can begin to be more than that. I’ve had a lot of players come to me and say ‘our agents have told us you’re not going to be here next season’.

“It’s a difficult situation but I’ve just got to get on with it. There’s not a date set to meet the chairman yet. We will sit down and have a chat.

Speculation

It is not surprising that the Spurs players have doubts about Sherwood’s future because there has been so much speculation about the Tottenham manager’s job. Spurs have been linked with moves for Everton’s Roberto Martinez and Southampton’s Mauricio Pochettino.

Ajax boss Frank de Boer has also claimed that Tottenham have enquired about his availability, a claim that the north Londoners have vehemently denied. Roberto Martinez is unlikely to leave Everton after just a season in charge.

The Toffees will finish fifth in the Premier League table and the Spaniard seems keen on developing his Everton team. Pochettino may seem like a more likely candidate, as his future with Southampton is in doubt.

Europa League

Tottenham face Aston Villa in the last game of the season on Sunday, in game they are favourites to win at odds of 1/ 2 to win. If Spurs win then they will confirm their place in the Europa League for next season.

The Europa League is not as highly-regarded as the Champions League, but winning the trophy will mean automatic entry into the Champions League for 2015, so Europe’s second tier competition all of a sudden seems slightly more important.

Continuity

It is now looking more and more likely that Tim Sherwood will leave Tottenham this summer. I only really ever felt he was a quick-fix and is probably not the right man for the job at White Hart Lane. The decision to appoint him was maybe a mistake, but he has been treated very poorly by the Spurs hierarchy nevertheless.

Tottenham have a lot of potential and a decent squad of players for next season. However, for the club to be consistently challenging at the top they need to be consistent and chairman Daniel Levy needs to make the right decision this summer.

This managerial situation has turned Tottenham into a circus for much of the season and the fans deserve better than this, so does Tim Sherwood for that matter, whether he is the man for the job or not.

Should Tim Sherwood stay as Spurs manager this summer?
