Deportivo Anzoategui have leapfrogged Zamora into top spot in Venezuela’s Primera Division thanks to a 1-1 draw with Deportivo Lara.
Rolando Escobar put Anzoategui in front in the opening minute of the second half but Lara claimed a point after Jose Torrealba notched an equaliser five minutes later.
Wednesday’s result took Anzoategui to 28 points, overhauling Zamora (27 points), while Trujillanos (26 points) sit third.
Lara claimed their seventh game in a row without loss, moving up to fifth, five points behind Anzoategui.
After a scoreless first half, Escobar broke the deadlock in the 46th minute when he advanced down the left wing before cutting inside and striking the ball into the top corner.
But the visitors hit back soon after when Torrealba got on the end of Jesus Gomez’s cross to poke the ball into the net.
While Anzoategui pushed hard for a winner in the closing stages, the Puerto La Cruz-based side were unable to breach Lara’s defence again and had to settle for a point.
In the other Primera Division match on Wednesday, seventh-placed Llaneros de Guanare were held to a scoreless draw at home by Caracas, who occupy ninth spot on the table.
