Wigan duo Emmerson Boyce and Mike Pollitt could not be happier about the return of Austrian midfielder Paul Scharner.

Boyce played with Scharner during his first stint at the club and is convinced the midfielder will lift the English Premier League strugglers, as well as the fans, after returning on loan from Hamburg.

“I’ve always got on well with Paul and it is great to see him back at the club,” he told the club’s website.

“He’s going to be a great asset for the team until the end of the season because he’s a great character, a big voice on the pitch and he has the quality to still play in the Premier League.

“Paul has experience in surviving in the Premier League with the club and we will benefit from that experience in what is quite a young squad.

“He left the club on a good note and I’m sure the fans will be excited to see him if he’s involved at the weekend.”

Veteran goalkeeper Pollitt was also delighted to see his old friend return to the DW Stadium and welcomed him back with open arms.

“Paul came in this morning and it’s just like he’s never been away,” he said.

“I had a laugh with him when he came in and I think Paul’s character and attitude is going to be great for the club.

“As soon as I saw the jacket I wanted it on, he’s been waiting seven years to get that jacket out of the wardrobe and I think it’s becoming quite famous in Wigan now.”
