Real Madrid sporting director Zinedine Zidane has revealed he would be interested in coaching the French national team in the future.

The former France international ended his playing career in the summer of 2006, but returned to football in June 2009 when he was named advisor to Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.

Zidane was appointed sporting director at the Bernabeu earlier this year, and the Frenchman now appears to have coaching ambitions as well.

“Whether I’d like to be coach of Les Bleus? Why not! That wouldn’t be a bad thing. Everything’s possible in life,” Zidane told Le Parisien.

France are currently coached by Laurent Blanc, who replaced Raymond Domenech after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

And while the man who is currently in the hot seat remained unconvinced about Zidane’s prospects, Blanc said it was pleasing to see former players who were keen to be involved in the national team set up.

“I do not know if I can picture Zidane as a national coach, but I would like it if the people of football were more committed to the sport than the television world,” Blanc said.

“I hope that this example, if it comes true, will inspire others. If he wants it, he should do it.”

France sit first in Group D of their Euro 2012 qualification campaign and need just four points from their last two games, against Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina, to book their ticket for next year’s tournament.
