11th January: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 7/1

With a busy Saturday afternoon of action from across England’s footballing tiers, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your weekend acca:

Saturday 11th January

BST 15:00 Barnsley vs Huddersfield

Picking up a 3-1 win away at League Two high-flyers Crewe last weekend and booking their spot in the fourth round of this year’s FA Cup, few in the Championship would have expected Barnsley’s vast improvements under new boss Gerhard Struber. While their five-match unbeaten run may have come to an abrupt end at Derby last week, the mood around Oakwell remains at a continued high and the South Yorkshire outfit have their sights set on finding a route out of the drop zone. Now sat just three points adrift of safety, a huge part of the Reds’ rise entering 2020 has come thanks to their continued performances on home soil. Including snatching a point off of title contenders West Brom on Boxing Day, Barnsley are unbeaten in their last four matches at Oakwell, a run also highlighted by a thumping 5-3 win over QPR last month. While the mood in South Yorkshire might be on the rise, the Reds’ local rivals find themselves once again showing signs of a struggle. While Huddersfield may have found a route out of the bottom-three, Danny Cowley’s men have lost three of their last four matches across all competitions, a run epitomized by a woeful 5-2 hammering against fellow strugglers Stoke on New Year’s Day.

Tip: Barnsley win @ 23/20

15:00 Exeter City vs Cambridge United

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, picking up a 2-1 win over League One title contenders Ipswich in the EFL Trophy last time out, Exter have entered the New Year in some style. Now climbing into the automatic position in England’s fourth-tier, the Whites also shinned in their 1-0 win away at play-off hopefuls Forest Green last week. With fans around St James’ Park now seeing their side land back-to-back victories, the Whites are in the midst of an eight-match unbeaten run in League Two, a run that stems back to the 2nd of November. Now sat just three points adrift of league leaders Swindon, there is no doubt that Head Coach Matt Taylor will be most impressed by his side’s continued performances at on home soil. Saturday’s hosts are unbeaten in each of their previous six matchups in Devon, a run that has seen them pick up a 4-0 victory over Plymouth and a 3-2 win over Northampton. While Exeter might be enjoying a free-scoring start to 2020, Cambridge find the mood in their camp at a worrying low. Hit with a 1-0 defeat away at Macclesfield last time out, the U’s have lost four of their last five appearances, including a 4-0 hammering away at Swindon on Boxing Day.

Tip: Exeter win and over 1.5 goals @ 5/4

17:30 Tottenham vs Liverpool

Despite making a string of changes for their FA Cup showdown against Everton last weekend, Jurgen Klopp’s youngsters snatched an impressive 1-0 victory and the party atmosphere around Anfield continues. Opening 2020 with a 13-point buffer at the top of the table and already with one hand on their first Premier League crown, Saturday’s guests have embarked on what looks like a famous campaign. Along with lifting the Club World Cup title last month, the reigning European champions have dropped just a pair of top-flight points this season and many are starting to believe that the Reds can become just the second team to march through a whole campaign unbeaten. With both Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah finding their net in their 2-0 victory over Sheffield United last week, Klopp’s side have won each of their last six matches across all formats and will travel to North London still ringing with confidence. On the flip side, after having to settle for an FA Cup replay against Championship outfit Middlesbrough last week, new Spurs boss Jose Mourinho has quickly come crashing out of the honeymoon period. Winning just one of their last five matches across all competitions, a run highlighted by a 1-0 defeat away at Southampton on New Year’s Day, Saturday should prove to be yet another long afternoon for the former Chelsea boss.

Tip: Liverpool win @ 4/6
