12th May: Wednesday’s Soccernews Accumulator – 9/1

With what promises to be another stacked midweek schedule throughout Wednesday, we have a host of eye-catching meetings from across Europe. So, for those of you looking to stick on a midweek accumulator, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Wednesday 12th May

BST 18:00 Livingston vs Rangers

Starting with Wednesday’s guests, managing to wrap up the Scottish Premiership title with plenty of time to spare, Rangers have gained a string of admirers under Steven Gerrard this season. Ending Celtic’s chance of landing 10 domestic crowns on the bounce, The Blues certainly laid down a real marker last time out. Putting on a clinical display in their Old Firm showdown earlier in the month, the former Liverpool icon saw his high-flying squad breeze their way to a thumping 4-1 win against a 10-man Celtic. In fact, claiming their third derby win of the season against their bitter rivals, The Blues also really managed to bounce back from that stunning FA Cup defeat against St. Johnstone on April 24th. Enjoying what is a real party atmosphere around Ibrox, Rangers do still have some records that they have their sights set on. After coming past Celtic last time out, Wednesday’s guests are remarkably unbeaten in each of their 36 Premiership matchups this season and have a golden chance to become The Invincibles. On the flip side, while Livingston did manage to land themselves a top-half finish this season, they are in the midst of a real worrying spell. Last seen getting hit with a 2-1 defeat at home against Aberdeen, The Yellows have lost each of their last four matchups across all formats. With Rangers landing a 1-0 victory when the two sides faced off earlier in the season and winning eight of their last nine meetings against Wednesday’s hosts, we’re backing a similar outcome in midweek.

Tip: Rangers win & under four goals @ 6/5

19:00 Celta Vigo vs Getafe

While Celta Vigo might have found themselves enduring a sluggish fortnight run last month, Wednesday’s hosts have managed to bounce back in an eye-catching fashion. Despite only just about managing to hang onto their La Liga status last season, Los Celestes suddenly find themselves dreaming of making a late charge for the European spots. While some across Spain might feel that Eduardo Coudet’s side have left it too late, The Light Blues are enjoying a real purple patch. Putting in what was a hugely impressive display on their travels over the weekend, Celta managed to shock many across Europe as they landed a stunning 4-2 win away at Europa League finalists Villarreal on Sunday. Enjoying what has been their brightest run of form since opening 2021, the former Internacional boss finds his side enjoying a three-match winning run and smelling another golden chance in midweek. Bagging themselves at least a pair of strikes in each of their previous three victories, it’s also worth highlighting that Celta have landed back-to-back La Liga wins at the Balaídos. On the flip side, while Coudet’s men might be a team on the rise, the same cannot be said for a struggling Getafe. Slumping to a 1-0 loss against Eibar last time out, Wednesday’s guests have won just one of their previous 10 matchups, a run that stems back to the end of February. More concerning, it’s also worth noting that The Blues have mustered themselves just a trio of points from their last nine contests on the road.

Tip: Celta Vigo win @ 27/20

20:15 Chelsea vs Arsenal

Starting with Wednesday’s hosts, mounting what was a stunning turnaround on their travels over the weekend, there is no doubt that the mood in Chelsea’s camp is at a red-hot high. Although some might have been skeptical by The Blues’ decision to sack Frank Lampard earlier in the year, the former Premier League champions have enjoyed a stunning rise under Thomas Tuchel. Eventually coming from behind and snatching a last-gasp 2-1 victory away at Manchester City on Saturday evening, the West London outfit now find themselves sat in pole position to clinch another top-four finish this season. Skyrocketing their way up the table, the former PSG boss also has a shock silverware double at the top of his agenda. Planning for an FA Cup final against Leicester this weekend and also securing a Champions League showdown against The Sky Blues for later in the month, Chelsea will be looking to keep up their momentum in midweek. Coming past Manchester City and Spanish giants Real Madrid in back-to-back contests, Wednesday’s hosts have remarkably lost just a single domestic matchup since Tuchel took charge in the capital. Only gaining a string of admirers, they should be confident of piling more pressure onto Mikel Arteta’s shoulders. While Arsenal might have secured West Brom’s immediate relegation thanks to a 3-1 win over the weekend, The Gunners are a club firmly in a crisis. Crashing out of the Europa League against Spanish outfit Villarreal last week, a result billed as one of the worst nights in the club’s history, The Reds are on the verge of missing out on European football for the first time in 25 years.
