16th October: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 8/1

With the Premier League and Europe’s top-tiers making their return this weekend, we have a stacked schedule on our hands. So, for those of you looking to put on a Saturday acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday October 16th

BST 15:00 Norwich City vs Brighton

Starting with Saturday’s guests, while Brighton would have been disappointed to have only entered the international break with a single point against Arsenal, it was another eye-catching display from the Seagulls. More than deserving of maximum points against the Gunners last time out, Graham Potter’s side have continued to gain a string of plaudits since opening the 2021/22 campaign. With the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, the one-time Swansea boss finds his squad mark their return to action sat sixth in the table. With many tipping them to enjoy a club-best season this time around, Brighton have lost just one of their opening seven Premier League contests. Enjoying a five-match unbeaten run across all formats, including a 2-0 win against the Swans on EFL Cup duties last month, this weekend’s guests should be smelling a golden chance on their travels. On the flip side, while Brighton might be enjoying a real purple patch, the same cannot be said for a downbeat Norwich side. Only coming under more scrutiny over the past six weeks, the east Anglia outfit are enduring a Premier League nightmare. Despite snatching a 0-0 stalemate away at Burnley when heading into the international break, that was the only point that Daniel Farke’s men have picked up so far this season. Already rooted to the foot of the table, an away victory for a high-flying Brighton appears at attractive odds here.

Tip: Brighton win & under five goals @ 13/10

15:00 Reading vs Barnsley

While Reading might find themselves dealing with some issues behind the scenes, the Royals mark their return to action enjoying a very impressive run of form. Knowing that victory this weekend could see them break back into the play-off spots, Saturday’s hosts were last seen on October 2nd picking up a deserved 1-0 win away at Cardiff. Managing to find a way to bounce back from that shock loss away at Derby when drawing a close to September, Veljko Paunović’s side have really found their feet after a rocky start to the 2021/22 campaign. In fact, on a run that saw them land a hugely impressive 2-1 win away at title contenders Fulham last month, Reading have collected 12 points from their last five Championship contests. Likewise, it should also be noted that the Royals have secured seven points from their last three matchups in Berkshire, including back-to-back home victories. Spearheaded by former England U21 star John Swift who has already notched seven second-tier goals, a struggling Barnsley could face another stern test here. Will Saturday’s guests might have shocked many on route to landing a play-off spot last season, the Reds have drastically failed to keep up that momentum. Last seen getting hit with a 1-0 defeat at home against Millwall, the Yorkshire outfit have lost their last thee Championship matchups on the spin.

Tip: Reading win @ 11/10

15:00 Nottingham Forest vs Blackpool

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, despite enduring what was a nightmare start to the 2021/22 campaign, Nottingham Forest have found what has been an immediate boost under new boss Steve Cooper. Turning to the former Swansea manager last month, the one-time European champions were last seen laying down a real marker. Skyrocketing their way up the table, the Reds were last seen landing a thumping 3-0 win against Birmingham on the road and they have now collected 10 points from their last four Championship contests. With that run highlighted by a thumping 3-1 win against Barnsley on September 29th, Cooper’s new side will now be desperate to improve on their record at the City Ground. Remarkably, aside from a 1-1 draw against Millwall, Forest have collected just a single point on home soil since opening the new season. On the flip side, also heading into the international break with a hugely impressive display, Blackpool have continued to impress many across the Championship. Despite only making their second-tier return over the summer, the Oranges were last seen picking up a 2-1 victory away at play-off hopefuls Blackburn. Marking their return sat in the top-half of the table, Neil Critchley’s men have also collected 10 points from just their last four Championship fixtures. It should be noted, with Saturday’s guests seeing all five of their away matchups this season finish with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome here.

Tip: Both teams to score @ 10/11
