18th January: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 7/1

With a hectic Saturday afternoon of action from across England’s footballing tiers, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of tips that can boost your weekend acca:

Saturday 18th January

BST 15:00 Huddersfield Town vs Brentford

Starting with Saturday’s guests, putting in yet another rampant display and picking up a 3-1 win over QPR at Griffin Park last weekend, Brentford have continued on quite the run of form. With Head Coach Thomas Frank signing a new long term deal in West London, the Bees now find themselves sat third in the table and in pole position to secure a play-off spot this season. Enjoying a three-match winning run across all competitions and also losing just one of their last eight appearances, one man who has continued to lead Brentford’s charge has been the red-hot Ollie Watkins. Attracting a string of interest from across England’s top-tier, the 24-year-old once again found the net last weekend has recorded five goals in his last four Championship appearances. Even more impressive, with 18 strikes to his name this season, Watkins now sits level with Fulham marksman Aleksandar Mitrovic in the race for the Golden Boot. With Huddersfield continuing to show some real signs of a struggle, there is no doubt that Brentford’s MVP should be confident of extending his tally this weekend. Hit with a 2-1 defeat against local rivals Barnsley last time out, the Terriers have lost their last three straight matchups, including a 5-2 hammering against Stoke in their last appearance at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Tip: Ollie Watkins to score anytime @ 11/10

15:00 Plymouth vs Mansfield

Putting in another dominant display and picking up a 3-0 win away at Carlisle last weekend, Plymouth find themselves enjoying a real purple patch in League Two. Scoring a trio of strikes in back-to-back matchups, the Greens now find themselves sat in pole position to secure a play-off spot this season. Winning four of their last five fourth-tier appearances and their sole defeat coming against league leaders Swindon on the road, Ryan Lowe’s side know that three points on Saturday could see them break into the automatic positions. Along with continuing to shine in the final third, Plymouth have also shown some real strengths on home soil. Winning five of their last six matches at Home Park and tasting defeat just once in front of their own supporters since the 21st of September, there is no doubt that the Greens will open this weekend’s contest filled with confidence. While Plymouth might be enjoying quite the resurge, the same can not be said for Mansfield. Throwing away the lead and hit with a dramatic 4-3 defeat against Forest Green last time out, Saturday’s guests have lost three of their last four appearances and the Stags have remarkably picked up just a single victory in any of their last 12 matches across all competitions. With Plymouth picking up a 1-0 win when the two sides faced off back in September, we’re backing a similar outcome this weekend.

Tip: Plymouth win @ 1/1

15:00 Ebbsfleet United vs Harrogate Town

Starting with Saturday’s guests, coming off the back of a 2-0 win over lower league Darlington in the FA Trophy last weekend, Harrogate have continued on quite the stellar run of form. Opening Saturday’s contest sat just three points adrift of climbing to the top of the National League standings, Simon Weaver’s men are enjoying a five-match winning run across all competitions and even more impressive, Harrogate have won nine of their last 10 appearances. With the mood around North Yorkshire at a continued high, a huge part of the Sulphurites’ eye-catching run has come down to some dominant displays at the back. Now recording four clean sheets on the bounce, this weekend’s guests have gone almost 400 minutes without picking the ball out of their net. On the flip side, putting in what was a dismal performance and hit with a humiliating 7-0 defeat away at Barrow in their last fifth-tier appearance, Ebbsfleet are still seen as one of the leading contenders for the drop this season. Opening the weekend sat seven points adrift of safety, Kevin Watson’s men have lost two of their last three National League matchups and have won just one of their last 10 league outings. With Harrogate picking up a 2-0 win when the two sides faced off back in October, we’re backing a similar outcome on Saturday afternoon.

Tip: Harrogate Town win @ 11/10
