20th June: Sunday’s MLS Accumulator – 7/1

While this summer’s delayed European Championships might be stealing most of the headlines, the MLS makes its return to action this weekend. With what promises to be another stacked schedule on the cards throughout the early hours of Sunday morning, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Sunday 20th June

BST 14:00 FC Cincinnati vs Colorado Rapids

Starting with Sunday’s guests, managing to make an immediate thumping return to winning ways before heading into the international break, Colorado have continued to impress many across the MLS this season. Bouncing back from that hard-fought 2-1 defeat against Los Angeles last month, The Rapids were last seen landing themselves an eye-catching 3-0 romp against Dallas on home soil. Now tipped as one of the landslide picks to clinch another play-off spot in the Western Conference, Head Coach Robin Fraser should find the mood in his camp at a real high. Smelling what should be another golden chance to extend on their purple patch this weekend, Colorado have won four of their last five matchups and have continued to shine in the final third. Once again bagging themselves a trio of goals against Dallas on May 30th, Sunday’s guests have now recorded over 2.5 goals in each of their last three MLS matchups. Losing just one of their last six away fixtures continuing on from last season, a struggling Cincinnati should face another stern test on home soil. Failing to build off of that much-needed victory against Inter Miami last month, Jaap Stam’s side have recorded just a single win so far this season and they have lost four of their last five contests. Hit with a 3-1 drumming the last time they faced off against Colorado, we’re backing a similar away victory here.

Tip: Colorado Rapids win @ 11/10

00:30 Columbus Crew vs Chicago Fire

While Columbus might have been public about their struggles when opening the 2021 campaign, the Ohio-based outfit did head into the international break enjoying a real purple patch. Putting in an attacking display against Toronto last time out, Caleb Porter’s side landed themselves a deserved 2-1 victory on home soil and they have skyrocketed their way back into the play-off spots. Also once again tipped as a standout pre-season pick to land another play-off spot in the Eastern Conference, The Crew have secured back-to-back MLS victories for the first time this campaign. With attacking talisman Gyasi Zardes opening his domestic account against Toronto last time out on May 29th, last year’s play-off champions should also be boosted by their continued success at the New Crew Stadium. Including their impressive home run in the Concacaf Champions League earlier in the year, Columbus are now unbeaten in each of their last 12 competitive matchups in Ohio continuing on from last season. On the flip side, while Sunday’s hosts might find themselves battling it out at the top of the Eastern Conference, the same cannot be said for a struggling Chicago. With only their goal difference stopping them from falling to the foot of the table, The Fire have continued on a torrid run of form. Last seen getting hit with a deserved 1-0 defeat against Montreal on home soil, this weekend’s guests have lost five of their last six MLS matchups.

Tip: Columbus Crew win @ 3/4

02:00 Austin FC vs San Jose Earthquakes

Starting with Sunday’s hosts, while Austin might have managed to snatch themselves a flattering 1-1 draw against Sporting Kansas City last week, the MLS’ latest franchise find themselves enduring a torrid run of form. Despite landing those much-needed back-to-back victories against Minnesota and Colorado when heading into May, Josh Wolff’s side have really failed to build off of those results. Heavily outplayed on their travels last week, Los Verdes are in the midst of a five-match winless run and have really shown a host of issues in the final third. Along with managing to find the net on just one occasion in any of their last four outings, Austin have also failed to bag more than a single strike in a matchup since their victory against The Rapids on April 25th. On the flip side, despite their bright start to the 2021 campaign, San Jose have come crashing back down to earth in a rather worrying fashion. Last seen heading into the international break with a 1-0 defeat against LA Galaxy on the road, The Earthquakes have lost each of their last four MLS matchups on the spin, their worst run in two years. More worrying, it should also be noted that Matías Almeyda’s side have scored just a single strike on their dreadful run. In a real showdown this weekend between two sides who are showing a host of issues in the final third, we’re backing what might turn out to be another low-scoring affair in the early hours of Sunday morning.
