23rd November: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 9/1

With England’s footballing tiers making a return to action after the international break, we here at Soccer News have found a handful of helpful tips that can boost your weekend acca:

Saturday 23rd November

BST 15:00 West Brom vs Sheffield Wednesday

Landing a 1-0 win over a resurgent Hull prior to the international break, few in the Championship would have expected the immediate impact Slaven Bilić has had on West Brom since joining over the summer. Losing just a single domestic matchup this season and with only Liverpool boasting a better record across England’s footballing tiers, the former West Ham boss finds his side holding a two-point buffer at the top of the table. With their sights firmly set on landing a Premier League return this year, a huge part of West Brom’s continued success has come down to some lethal showings in the final third. Led by leading goalscorer Matt Phillips who has recorded two strikes in his last three appearances, the Baggies have now scored 15 goals in their last five matchups at the Hawthorns and they should be confident of extending their winning run this weekend. While it might have also been a very bright start to the season for Sheffield Wednesday, the Owls have since begun to show some signs of a struggle. Recording just a single victory in any of their last five Championship matchups, Saturday’s guests have also failed to win any of their last three matches away from Hillsborough, a run highlighted by a 2-1 loss away at Blackburn earlier in the month.

Tip: West Brom win and over 1.5 goals @ 5/4

15:00 Huddersfield vs Birmingham

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while Huddersfield may have suffered a 3-1 loss away at play-off contenders Preston prior to the international break, the Terriers have continued to make a string of improvements since bringing in Danny Cowley. Finding a route out of the drop zone and with the chance to leapfrog both Reading and Blackburn this weekend, they have lost just one of their last eight Championship appearances, a run that stems back to the 22nd of September. Led by leading marksman Karlan Grant who now has four strikes in his last six outings and is attracting a string of interest from across England, a huge part of Huddersfield’s recent resurge has come thanks to their continued success on home soil. Saturday’s hosts are in the midst of a four-match unbeaten run at the John Smith’s Stadium, a run highlighted by a 3-0 win over Hull last month. Given Birmingham’s continued struggles heading into the international break, there is no doubt that the former Lincoln boss should see Saturday as a golden opportunity to extend on their eye-catching run. Suffering back-to-back defeats earlier in the month, the Blues have also now lost each of their previous four matches away from St. Andrew’s, including shipping four against Cardiff in their last matchup on the road.

Tip: Huddersfield win @ 8/5

15:00 Barrow vs Barnet

Turning our attention to the National League, after landing a thumping 3-0 win away at play-off contenders Notts County last weekend, it really has been a stellar run of form in the fifth-tier for Barrow. Climbing to the top of the table and leapfrogging Bromley, Saturday’s hosts have now won each of their last three matches on the bounce and even more impressive, Ian Evatt’s men have recorded clean sheets in all three of those victories. Undoubtedly the in-form side in the National League, Barrow have remarkably won 10 of their last 11 domestic matchups, a run that stems all the way back to the 3rd of September. With their sights set on securing a debut season in League Two next year, it has been their continued success in Cumbria really spearheading their promotion charge. Barrow are in the midst of a four-match winning run on home soil, a run highlighted by a 3-1 win over Boreham Wood last month. With Barnet so publically struggling, there is no doubt that Evatt should see this weekend as a golden opportunity to extend their stay at the top of the standings. Throwing away a one-goal lead at home against Stockport last weekend and eventually suffering a 2-1 defeat, Saturday’s guests have been hit with back-to-back defeats and the Bees have lost four of their last five matches across all competitions.

Tip: Barrow win @ 17/20
