24th April: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 6/1

With all the focus now back on the on-field action after a hectic few days, Saturday promises a string of noteworthy meetings from up and down the country. So, for those of you looking to stick on a weekend acca, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday 24th April

BST 15:00 Barnsley vs Rotherham United

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, managing to make an immediate return to winning ways earlier in the week, Barnsley have only continued to shock many across the Championship this season. While The Tykes might have only just about managed to hang onto their second-tier status last season, the South Yorkshire outfit have suddenly transformed into one of the leading play-off contenders. Enjoying what has been a stunning purple patch under Head Coach Valérien Ismaël, The Reds open this weekend’s fixtures holding a six-point buffer from dropping out of the play-off spots. Smelling what is a golden chance to pick up maximum points against their bitter rivals at an empty Oakwell, Barnsley were last seen earlier in the week picking up a 1-0 victory against Huddersfield. Desperate to prove that their shock loss against Coventry last weekend was just a minor blip, Saturday’s hosts have largely impressed with their rugged displays on home soil. With just a single defeat at Oakwell since the middle of January, a struggling Rotherham could face another stern test on their travels. Almost inching towards an immediate League One return this season, The Millers were last seen throwing away the lead against Middlesbrough in midweek. Eventually hit with a 2-1 loss on home soil, the leading relegation scrappers have lost each of their last three Championship matchups on the spin. With Barnsley picking up a 2-1 win when the two sides faced off back in December, we’re backing a similar home win this weekend.

Tip: Barnsley win @ 4/6

15:00 Derby County vs Birmingham City

While Birmingham might have opened 2021 tipped as one of the Championship’s leading relegation contenders, The Blues find themselves enjoying a real purple patch. Finding what has been an immediate boost since bringing Lee Bowey to St. Andrew’s last month, the Midlands outfit have all but confirmed their second-tier status for another season. Almost skyrocketing their way away from the bottom-three, the former Charlton boss should find the mood in his camp at a real high. While Saturday’s guests might have been disappointed to have only collected a point against Nottingham Forest earlier in the week, Birmingham suddenly find themselves holding a commanding 10-point buffer over the relegation zone. Still boosted by that shock 1-0 win against Swansea when returning from the international break, The Blues are unbeaten in each of their last five Championship contests on the spin. Last seen on their travels picking up a late 1-0 victory away at Rotherham, Bowyer’s men should be smelling a real chance against a struggling Derby. While The Rams might have enjoyed their own immediate boost when bringing in Wayne Rooney, Saturday’s hosts are still firmly at the heart of a relegation scrap. Last seen getting hit with a woeful 3-0 drumming at the hands of Preston, the former England skipper has seen his squad lose their last four second-tier matchups on the bounce. More worrying, it should be noted that Derby have recorded just a single win in their last 12 straight contests.

Tip: Birmingham City draw no bet @ 11/10

15:00 Cambridge United vs Stevenage

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, while Cambridge might have been hit with that shock thumping at the hands of Exeter earlier in the month, that doesn’t appear to have hindered The U’s. Still holding a two-point buffer at the top of the table and in pole position to at least earn them an automatic route to League One for next season, Mark Bonner’s side were last seen in midweek putting on a thumping display on their travels. Managing to build off of that 1-0 victory away at Newport County last weekend, Cambridge picked up an eye-catching 4-2 win against Leyton Orient on Tuesday night. With just a single defeat to their name since the start of March, it’s well worth keeping an eye out for leading marksman Paul Mullin this weekend. Converting from the spot away at Orient in midweek, the 26-year-old has recorded a remarkable 29 goals so far this season. On the flip side, while Stevenage might have opened 2021 enjoying a real purple patch, they have found themselves in the midst of an extended blip. Including a 1-0 loss against Cheltenham earlier in the week, Saturday’s guests have lost each of their last three League Two matchups on the bounce. In fact, along with enduring their worst run of form since way back in October, the Hertfordshire outfit have recorded just a single point from their last four fourth-tier showdowns.

Tip: Cambridge United win @ 1/1
