Once again drawing a blank on the road against their cross-town rivals on their top-flight return, the Blues have now managed to bag just a sole Bundesliga goal in their last five appearances and have scored just a single goal in over 550 minutes of action across all formats. As for the visitors, watching Wolfsburg snatch an injury-time winner last weekend, Augsburg are another outfit in the midst of a real crisis. Still battling it out in the bottom half of the table, Heiko Herrlich’s men have lost their last four top-flight matches on the bounce and have managed to land just a sole victory since opening 2020. In a matchup between two sides enduring a string off issues, we’re backing another scrappy contest at the Veltins Arena on Sunday.

14:30 Mainz vs RB Leipzig

Only managing to pick up a flattering 1-1 draw against Freiburg last weekend and helped by a controversial injury-time VAR call, Leipzig saw their fading title ambitions take what could be a clinical blow. Despite picking up what was a stunning 3-0 romp against Tottenham while on Champions League duties back in March, Sunday’s guests have drawn their of their last three Bundesliga matches on the bounce and have now dropped down to fourth in the table. Not helped by leading marksman and Liverpool target Timo Werner managing to bag just a single Bundesliga goal in his last eight outings, Leipzig have also showed some inconsistencies in the final third. Including a shock 2-0 defeat against a struggling Eintracht Frankfurt, Julian Nagelsmann’s men have won just one of their last five Bundesliga matchups on the road and even more worrying for the Red Bull’s, they have drawn a blank in three of their last four appearances on their travels. On the flip side, while Mainz may have managed to battle from behind to snatch a point at Koln on their top-flight return last weekend, Sunday’s hosts have won just two of their last 10 top-flight matchups and have a growing reputation for their issues on home soil. Aside from a 2-0 win against relegation destined Paderborn back in March, Die Nullfünfer’s men have failed to win any of their other six Bundesliga appearances at the Opel Arena.

17:00 Koln vs Fortuna Dusseldorf 

Starting with Sunday’s hosts, while Koln may have been left disappointed to have thrown away a two-goal lead against Mainz on their Bundesliga return last weekend, they have shown much-needed improvements in the second half of the season. In a real battle to secure a top-half finish this year, the Billy Goats have lost just one of their last eight matchups at the RheinEnergieStadion and have one leading marksman who has continued on quite the purple patch. Marking his return with a goal from the penalty spot last week, Mark Uth has quickly cemented his spot as the leading man for Markus Gisdol’s side. Desperate to make his loan switch from Schalke into a permanent move, the 28-year-old is the only Koln player to reach double digits this season and is enjoying a stunning run of form. Already finding the net against both Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach since opening the New Year, Uth has bagged back-to-back Bundesliga strikes and has also recorded five goals in his last seven top-flight outings. With Fortuna Dusseldorf arriving this weekend, there is no doubt that Uth should be confident of extending his tally on Sunday evening. Only picking up what was a sluggish 0-0 stalemate against fellow strugglers Paderborn on their return last week, the Whites have failed to win any of their last four matchups across all formats, including crashing out of the DFP Pokal against lower league Saarbrücken. Even more worrying for Uwe Rösler’s side, his men have won just one of their last 12 matchups on the road.
