2nd October: Saturday’s Football Accumulator – 7/1

With the midweek Champions League fixtures drawing to a close, we have another stacked Saturday schedule from across the footballing globe. So, for those of you looking to stick on a weekend flutter, we have found a handful of helpful tips that are worth keeping an eye out for.

Saturday October 2nd

BST 15:00 Burnley vs Norwich City

For our opening Tip of the Day, we turn our attention to a real battle at the foot of the Premier League table. Despite putting in what was a largely impressive display away at Europa League outfit Leicester last weekend, there is no doubt that Burnley would have been disappointed to have had to settle for a single point. Throwing away the lead twice as the Foxes eventually snatched a late 2-2 draw, Sean Dyche will be looking to take the positives from their performance at the King Power. Still looking for their first Premier League win since opening the 2021/22 campaign, Saturday’s hosts should be smelling a golden chance this weekend. If Dyche’s side are to find a boost at Turf Moor, then they will be calling on Chris Wood to spearhead their charge. Despite having a last-gasp winner ruled out against Leicester last time out, the New Zealand striker will be looking to cash in on a Norwich side in the midst of a crisis. On the flip side, eventually hit with a deserved 2-0 defeat against Everton last weekend, the Yellows are tipped as a landslide pick to be hit with an immediate Championship return. Yet to get a single point to their name since opening the new campaign, Daniel Farke’s side could face another stern test on the road. While Wood might have only bagged a single top-flight goal so far this season, the former Leeds man will be smelling a chance here.

Tip: Chris Wood to score anytime @ 5/4

15:00 Portsmouth vs Sunderland

Starting with the guests, while Sunderland might have failed to book a Championship return last season, the Black Cats have really come flying out the traps this time around. With the mood in their camp at a red-hot high, the former Premier League outfit were last seen in midweek laying down another clinical marker. Putting on a rampant display on home soil, Lee Johnson’s side stormed their way to a 5-0 win against Cheltenham Town and they have continued to gain a host of plaudits. Opening up this weekend’s fixtures holding a three-point buffer at the top of the League One table, the one-time Bristol City boss finds his side enjoying a real purple patch. Including extending their EFL Cup run against Wigan earlier in the month, Sunderland are unbeaten in each of their last eight matchups across all formats, recording seven wins. Likewise, also recording three clean sheets on the spin, Saturday’s guests will be looking to lay down another marker when they travel to the South Coast this weekend. While Johnson’s men might be flying high, the same can not be said for a downbeat Portsmouth. Last seen in midweek getting hit with a 2-1 defeat away at Burton Albion, the Blues are enduring a woeful run of form. Freefalling their way down the League One table, Pompey have failed to win any of their last eight straight contests, a run that stems back to August 17th. Given the recent gulf in class, an away win appears at attractive odds.

Tip: Sunderland win @ 11/8

17:20 Eastleigh vs Boreham Wood

Starting with Saturday’s hosts, managing to mount a stellar comeback on home soil last weekend, there is no doubt that Eastleigh will be desperate to build off of that performance. Despite falling 2-0 down against Woking at the Silverlake Stadium seven days ago, Ben Strevens’ men eventually landed what was an action-packed 3-2 victory in Hampshire. Looking to prove that their deserved defeat away at title contenders Grimsby earlier in the month was just a minor blip, the Spitfires have lost just one of their last five National League contests. Managing to land a 4-1 win against Dover Athletic on September 14th, Eastleigh have also gained a reputation for their free-scoring displays on home soil. Along with collecting seven points from their last three home fixtures, it should be noted that the hosts have bagged over 2.5 goals in each of those three consecutive matchups in Hampshire. On the flip side, also managing to make an immediate return to winning ways last time out, Boreham Wood find themselves firmly battling it out at the top of the table. Landing a deserved 2-1 victory against Yeovil last weekend, Luke Garrard’s side have made a string of improvements from last season. With just a single National League defeat to their name since opening the 2021/22 campaign, they have also gained a reputation for their lively outcomes. With each of their last four straight matchups finishing with both teams finding the net, we’re backing a similar outcome here.

Tip: Both teams to score @ 8/13
