A summer of déjà vu at Arsenal

This summer so far must feel like déjà vu for Arsenal fans.

Their captain and star midfielder Cesc Fabregas again being linked with a move to European Champions Barcelona and boss Arsene Wenger dragging his feet over moves in the transfer market.

Speculation

The speculation over Fabregas’ future seems to have been going on for most of his Gunners career.

And a large number of Arsenal fans seem to believe that it’s time that the Spanish international moves on.

He may be a top player but the speculation surrounding his future has really unsettled the team. Although he keeps claiming that he is happy at the Emirates he has also stated that he is frustrated that the club aren’t winning trophies.

Barcelona

Barcelona have shown interest in the 23 year-old for the last couple of summers but according to reports they have now bid £27 million for the midfielder. The bid was quickly rejected by the Gunners as they believe the Spaniard is worth far more. By the standards of today’s market the offer was derisory and Barcelona will probably need to pay closer to £35million to capture him.

Injuries

Last season Cesc Fabregas struggled with injuries and loss of form. Some say that his loss of form was down to his head being turned by the prospect of a move back home to Catalonia.

Whatever the reason for his inconsistent performances last season it seems that it’s almost inevitable that Fabregas will be heading home this summer. Fabregas is no use to Arsenal if he isn’t committed to the cause and it seems he isn’t at the moment.

Signings

Although the transfer window doesn’t officially open until July 1st some of Arsenal’s rivals have already strengthen their squads. Arsenal however have again had a slow start to their summer strengthening.

Priorities

Arsenal’s priorities will be to sign some top class centre backs and if Fabregas goes a replacement for the Spaniard. The club may also be in need of an extra keeper, even though Polish youngster Wojciech Szczesny showed his potential last season.

Deja Vu

Arsenal have been in need of some quality defenders for the last couple of seasons but still boss Arsene Wenger hasn’t been able sign the required standard of player. I have a sense of déjà vu myself writing this article.

Title

Arsenal will need to strengthen their squad this summer if they are going to challenge for the Premier League title. Arsene Wenger doesn’t seem to want to spend money, even when he knows where his teams weaknesses lie.

Spending big doesn’t always guarantee you success but it’s obvious that he buys you bigger and better players. Arsene Wenger’s method of buying youngsters and nurturing them worked for awhile but now he needs to slightly change his ways if he is bring success back to the Emirates Stadium.

I am a big fan of Wenger’s work at Arsenal and he has really helped develop the game in this country. However after six years without a trophy Arsenal fans are starting to question the Frenchman’s methods.

Same

I’m not an Arsenal supporter but I’m a fan of the style of football they try and play. I just hope I am not sitting here next summer writing a similar sort of article to this one. With Arsenal though you just never know.

Will Cesc Fabregas finally leave Arsenal this summer?

Fabregas is over rated. for a player that compains about not winning trophies he doesn’t really offer much in improving this. If he does go to Barcelona, he will most definitely just be a bench warmer there.

Agree with you Rosh – but with the new signings coming in Fabregas must stay back and give a last shot. Emotinally he may be wanting to move back but his personal success and job satisfaction will only come from Arsenal. Alos we were the only English team to have matched Barcelona in style and stamina. I have a vain feeling he will stay back.

Fabregas has lost his attitude for the gunners.

It is of no meaning to keep an unsettled player like him whose public hunger for Barca for 2 seasons and there is no guarantee that he will perform under this shape.

Fabregas lost faith in Arsenal lured by money and trophees and with his lost brothers@Barca crying for him with any loyalty for the club at which he was given teenage first team place and big name.

The homesick man should leave Arsenal for the good of Arsenal and him to explore the lost pride and silverware for the past seasons with his soulmates….

Adios Fabregas, we will miss you at EPL…
