Alderweireld will return to Ajax

According to a recent report from Sky Sports, Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed that he is “100%” going to return to Ajax at some point before he calls it a day on his career. Toby began his professional career with the Dutch club, where he was able to make a name for himself as one of the top young defenders in European football. As a result last night was probably quite bittersweet, as he helped Spurs defeat Ajax and book their place in the Champions League Final.

We’ve all seen legendary players go back to their hometown clubs for one last hurrah in the past, and it wouldn’t be at all surprising to see Toby do the same. After all, it’s not like he hasn’t hinted at the possibility of a move away in the past.

If he does head back to Amsterdam, though, it probably won’t be for at least a few more years yet.
