Ancelotti looking no further than Rennes

Paris Saint-Germain coach Carlo Ancelotti insists his side will be focusing on their game against Stade Rennes rather than the top-two battle.

The capital club sit second on the Ligue 1 table, three points behind Rene Girard’s Montpellier with champions Lille a further two adrift with two rounds of the campaign left.

The 52-year-old was keen to stress that PSG will be seeking to negotiate the game against Rennes.

“I think we need to focus on our game. After, naturally, we will look at the result of Montpellier (against Lille). But, the most important thing is to concentrate on our game,” he said.

“We face a dangerous team, who have won nine games on the road. Rennes is a good team. But we want to continue to play good football.

“The most important thing is to show (a good) mentality, character and personality. (We should) not be afraid to play to win.”

Ancelotti said the suspension of Thiago Motta and the injury to Christophe Jallet were blows to his team, before praising the Brazilian’s impact since his move from Inter in January.

“Thiago Motta is an important player. He has had a very good half-season. I have the opportunity to replace him with (Mathieu) Bodmer or (Blaise) Matuidi if we want to do a good job in front of the defence,” he said.

“I do not think (Jallet’s injury) is anything serious, but we will have to see what he does in training on Saturday.”
