Arsenal go after Willian

According to a recent report from ESPN, Arsenal have jumped ahead of Liverpool in the race to try and sign Chelsea star Willian on a free transfer. The Brazilian’s contract is set to come to an end on June 30th, and while he has been in contact with Liverpool, it seems as if Arsenal are the frontrunners at this moment in time.

Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have also been sniffing around, with the latter now being one of the favourites to sign a whole host of top European stars with their long awaited takeover being on the verge of completion.

Willian has been fairly inconsistent at times, but when he’s at his best, he really does shine. If Arsenal were able to acquire him from their rivals, it could be a huge statement of intent. Whether or not they can get it over the finish line is a different matter.
